Summary
This was the first study in humans to test the safety of TIPS microspheres, tiny absorbable beads, for treating perianal fistulas. Thirteen adult patients with simple fistulas had the microspheres placed into their fistula tract during a standard surgical procedure. Researchers monitored patients for safety issues like infection and pain, and checked if the treatment helped the fistula heal naturally.
