First human test of tiny healing beads for painful anal tunnels

NCT ID NCT03707769

Summary

This was the first study in people to check if a new treatment called TIPS microspheres is safe for perianal fistulas. Thirteen adults with simple perianal fistulas had the tiny, dissolvable beads placed into their fistula tract during a standard surgical procedure. Researchers monitored patients closely for complications like infection and pain, and looked for early signs that the beads might help the fistula heal naturally.
