Liver shunt study offers hope for reversal of advanced cirrhosis

Summary
This study looks at whether a procedure called TIPS (a small tube placed in the liver to reroute blood flow) can help the liver recover in people with advanced cirrhosis. Researchers will follow 250 adults with decompensated cirrhosis (where the liver is failing) for one year to see if they meet criteria for 'recompensation'—meaning the liver starts working better and complications like fluid buildup or bleeding resolve. The goal is to find out if TIPS can improve survival and reduce the need for a liver transplant.
