Fasting diet shows promise for fatty liver disease

NCT ID NCT07530809

First seen Apr 19, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at whether a 5:2 intermittent fasting diet (eating normally five days a week and limiting calories to about 600 on two days) can reduce liver fat in people with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). The study will include 120 adults aged 18-75 who are overweight and have significant liver fat. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the fasting diet or a standard healthy diet, and researchers will measure changes in liver fat using a non-invasive ultrasound scan.
