New anesthesia method may cut coughing and breathing risks after thyroid surgery

NCT ID NCT07325669

First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study compares two anesthesia methods—total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) using a target-controlled infusion (TCI) and inhaled sevoflurane—in 100 adults undergoing thyroid surgery. The goal is to see which method causes fewer airway problems like coughing, laryngospasm, and low oxygen levels after the breathing tube is removed. Participants will be monitored for complications during recovery, and the results may help improve safety and comfort after thyroid surgery.
