Hidden cancer cells force second surgery in thyroid patients
NCT ID NCT06439745
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 30 times
Summary
This study looked at 314 adults with small, early-stage papillary thyroid cancer who were scheduled for a less extensive surgery (lobectomy). Doctors checked lymph nodes during the operation and found that many patients had hidden cancer spread, requiring a second surgery to remove the rest of the thyroid. The goal was to understand how often this happens and what factors predict it, helping doctors plan better from the start.
