First seen Apr 30, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 13 times
Summary
This phase 3 trial tests whether adding chemotherapy to standard radiotherapy after complete surgical removal of thymic cancer can reduce the chance of the cancer coming back. About 172 adults aged 18-75 with early-stage thymic cancer will be randomly assigned to receive either radiotherapy alone or radiotherapy plus four cycles of chemotherapy (paclitaxel, cisplatin, 5-FU). Participants will be followed for at least two years to track cancer recurrence and survival.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
paclitaxel, cisplatin, 5-FU, and calcium folinate (chemotherapy drugs) plus radiotherapy
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that adding chemotherapy after surgery helps prevent thymic cancer from coming back.
What could go wrong
This is a mid-stage trial with only 172 people, so results may not apply to everyone. Chemotherapy can cause side effects like low blood counts and fatigue.
