Clot removal during heart attack procedure shows promise in new study
NCT ID NCT05510661
First seen Apr 19, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 6 times
Summary
This study compares two ways to treat a severe heart attack (STEMI) where a major heart artery is completely blocked. One group gets standard balloon/stent treatment alone, while the other also has a device to suction out the blood clot before opening the artery. Researchers will check blood flow right after the procedure and track heart-related problems like death, heart failure, or stroke during the hospital stay and shortly after. The goal is to see if removing the clot leads to better outcomes.
