New blood test may predict bleeding danger for cancer patients on clot drugs

NCT ID NCT06386107

First seen Nov 24, 2025 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a special blood test, called a thrombin generation assay, can predict bleeding risk in cancer patients who are taking blood thinners for blood clots. Researchers will follow 212 patients for 6 months, measuring their blood's clotting ability and tracking any bleeding events. The goal is to see if this test can help doctors choose safer treatments for cancer-associated thrombosis.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Thrombin Generation Assay (blood test)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a blood test that helps doctors predict bleeding risk in cancer patients on anticoagulants, allowing safer treatment choices.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. The test may not reliably predict bleeding, and results may not change clinical practice without further validation.

Conditions

The condition(s) this trial relates to.
