Lung fluid drain may ease breathing in heart failure patients

NCT ID NCT07419360

First seen Feb 19, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study looks at whether removing fluid from around the lungs (a procedure called thoracentesis) can help hospitalized heart failure patients feel less short of breath. About 216 adults with heart failure and fluid buildup will either get standard medical therapy alone or standard therapy plus the fluid removal procedure. Researchers will track how patients rate their breathing and quality of life over 30 days to see if the added procedure makes a meaningful difference.
