New heart tool aims to stop AFib episodes without lifelong drugs

NCT ID NCT06272981

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tested a special catheter and generator system to treat paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF), a condition where the heart beats irregularly. 135 adults with PAF that didn't improve with medication took part. The procedure uses heat energy to isolate the pulmonary veins, which can stop the abnormal signals causing the irregular heartbeat. The goal was to see if the system is safe and effective at controlling the condition without needing long-term drugs.
