First seen Feb 22, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study compares two standard medicines, sodium bicarbonate and THAM, used to treat metabolic acidosis (too much acid in the blood) during heart surgery. About 250 adults having heart surgery with a heart-lung machine will take part. The goal is to see if both drugs work equally well at safely restoring normal acid levels.
