NCT ID NCT05172271
First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 28 times
Summary
This study tests a new treatment called TEST that uses a weaker electric current than standard electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for people with depression that hasn't improved with other treatments. The goal is to see if TEST is safe, practical, and can help lift depression while avoiding the memory problems ECT can cause. Eight adults aged 25-64 with major depression or bipolar disorder will receive TEST or a sham (fake) treatment, and their mood and thinking will be tracked for up to 42 weeks.
