Short bone drug boost may tighten spine screws in osteoporosis patients

NCT ID NCT03770338

First seen May 15, 2026 · Last updated Jun 18, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether taking teriparatide (a bone-building drug) for one month before lumbar fusion surgery helps surgeons place screws more securely in patients with osteoporosis. About 192 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the drug or no pretreatment. The main goal is to measure screw tightness during surgery, with follow-up checks on bone density, fusion success, and quality of life.
