Old drug, new hope: terazosin trial targets energy crisis in ALS

NCT ID NCT07224269

First seen Nov 06, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 30 times

Summary

This pilot study tests whether terazosin, a drug already used for other conditions, can safely increase energy production in people with ALS. Twenty participants will receive either terazosin or a placebo for 12 weeks. The main goal is to measure changes in ATP, a key energy molecule, and to check for side effects. This early-stage trial is not designed to prove the drug works, but to guide future research.
