First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 42 times
Summary
This study tests whether using a smart insulin pen (InPen) along with a continuous glucose monitor and telemedicine visits can help veterans with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar better than traditional insulin pens. About 50 adults on multiple daily insulin injections will be enrolled. The goal is to see if the smart technology leads to lower HbA1c levels and improved outcomes.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Smart insulin pen (InPen) with continuous glucose monitor and telemedicine
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a more convenient and effective way for people with type 2 diabetes to manage their blood sugar using smart technology and remote doctor visits.
What could go wrong
This is a small early-stage study with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The smart pen requires consistent use of the app and may not suit all patients.
