Brain drain study tracks antibiotic levels in spinal fluid

NCT ID NCT06119061

First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study looks at how the antibiotic telavancin moves into the brain fluid of critically ill patients who have had a brain bleed and have a drain in their head. Twenty adults aged 18 to 85 will receive three doses of telavancin, and researchers will measure the drug levels in their blood, brain fluid, and urine. The goal is to understand how much of the drug reaches the brain, not to treat a specific infection.
