Heart valve fix without backup surgery? new trial puts it to the test
NCT ID NCT07515768
First seen Apr 08, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a common heart valve replacement called TAVI can be safely performed in hospitals that do not have a cardiac surgery department on site. Currently, TAVI is only done in hospitals with full surgical backup, which can cause long wait times. The trial will randomly assign 404 patients aged 70 or older with severe aortic stenosis to get TAVI either at a hospital with or without on-site surgery, and then check for complications within 30 days.
