Heart valve procedure tested without crucial prep step
NCT ID NCT02729519
Summary
This study tested whether a common heart valve replacement procedure could be done safely without first stretching the valve with a balloon. Researchers compared the standard method (with balloon stretching) against a simpler method (direct valve placement) in 250 patients with severe aortic valve narrowing. The goal was to see if skipping the balloon step could reduce complications while still successfully replacing the valve.
