Gut bacteria boost: synbiotic may give cyclists an edge

NCT ID NCT06300060

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study tested whether a synbiotic (a mix of probiotics and prebiotics) can improve endurance in trained cyclists. Twenty-two adults who cycle at least 3 hours per week took the supplement or a placebo for several weeks, then completed a 20-kilometer time trial. Researchers measured completion time, oxygen use, and gut health to see if the supplement made a difference.
