What's in Mom's soda? sweeteners found in breast milk

NCT ID NCT05379270

Summary

This study aimed to measure how much of two common artificial sweeteners pass from a mother's body into her breast milk and then to her baby. Researchers gave a diet drink containing sucralose and acesulfame-potassium to 82 breastfeeding mothers and then collected multiple milk and blood samples over three days, plus one blood sample from each baby. The goal was to gather basic data to help design future studies on the potential health effects of early-life exposure to these sweeteners.
