Zap to swallow: electrical therapy trial aims to help MS patients eat safely
NCT ID NCT05063708
Summary
This study tested whether adding a mild electrical stimulation therapy to standard swallowing exercises helps people with multiple sclerosis who have trouble swallowing. 136 participants were randomly assigned to receive either the real electrical stimulation or a fake version alongside their speech therapy. The goal was to see if the combined approach made swallowing safer and improved nutrition and quality of life more than exercises alone.
