New device aims to help swallowing, but study stopped early
NCT ID NCT02296528
First seen Apr 21, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 6 times
Summary
This study tested a device called the Swallow Expansion Device (SED) to help people who cannot swallow safely and rely on a feeding tube. The device works by gently opening the upper throat muscle to allow food and liquid to pass without going into the lungs. Only 4 people were enrolled, and the study was stopped early, so results are very limited.
