Summary
This early-stage study tested a device called the Swallow Expansion Device (SED) in 4 adults who relied on feeding tubes because of life-threatening swallowing problems. The device is designed to mechanically open the upper throat muscle to allow food and liquid to pass safely. The goal was to see if it could improve swallowing and reduce the risk of food going into the lungs.
