Doctors test Pre-Surgery 'Conditioning' to make cancer operation safer
NCT ID NCT03896399
Summary
This study tested a new two-step surgery approach for patients with esophageal cancer who have hardened arteries, which increases their risk of a dangerous leak after the main operation. First, doctors performed a small laparoscopic procedure to prepare the stomach tissue. Then, 12-18 days later, they performed the full cancer-removal surgery. The main goal was to see if this extra step was safe and feasible, and if it could help reduce the risk of leaks by improving blood flow to the surgical site.
