Eye-Opening brain scan may spot Parkinson's sooner

NCT ID NCT02488395

First seen Nov 18, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study tested whether a brain region called the superior colliculus, which processes visual information, could serve as an early marker for Parkinson's disease. Researchers compared newly diagnosed Parkinson's patients (not yet on medication) with healthy volunteers using fMRI scans while they viewed light stimuli. The goal was to see if changes in brain activity could lead to earlier diagnosis.
