Suction toothbrush may slash pneumonia risk for ventilator patients

NCT ID NCT07125495

First seen Apr 28, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether using a suction toothbrush—a toothbrush that removes saliva and germs at the same time—can lower the chance of lung infection (pneumonia) in patients who are on a breathing machine in the intensive care unit (ICU). Researchers studied 111 adults who were intubated (had a breathing tube) for more than 48 hours. The goal was to see if better mouth care with this special brush reduces pneumonia compared to standard care.
