Menstrual cup suction may dislodge IUDs – study investigates
NCT ID NCT05254041
First seen Feb 13, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 12 times
Summary
This study examines whether the suction created when removing a menstrual cup can cause an IUD to shift or be expelled. Researchers will ask 80 women who already have an IUD to insert and remove a menstrual cup as recommended, then check if the IUD moved more than 1 cm. The goal is to better understand how suction affects IUD placement and help healthcare providers give better advice to patients.
