Simple brain scan could open lifesaving stroke care to millions worldwide

NCT ID NCT07001852

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study tests whether a procedure that removes blood clots from the brain can help stroke patients treated up to 72 hours after symptoms start, using only a basic CT scan available at most hospitals. Currently, this treatment is only proven within 6 hours and requires advanced imaging that many hospitals lack. The trial will enroll 500 adults aged 18-80 with moderate to severe stroke symptoms. Participants will either receive standard medical care or the clot-removal procedure plus medical care. The goal is to see if the procedure improves recovery and reduces disability at 90 days.
