Pre-surgery stoma practice may ease patient fears

Summary
This study tests whether letting patients practice with a stoma before their surgery helps lower anxiety and improve how well they adapt afterward. About 58 adults getting a colostomy or ileostomy will be randomly assigned to either receive the stoma simulation or standard care. The goal is to see if this hands-on preparation makes the emotional and lifestyle transition easier.
