New brain monitor aims to catch patients waking up during surgery

Summary

This study tests whether a brain-computer interface can detect when a person might be accidentally aware during general anesthesia. Researchers will monitor brain activity in 48 right-handed adults having surgery with propofol anesthesia. The goal is to improve safety by spotting signs of consciousness that current monitors miss.
