First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 22 times
Summary
This study tested whether injecting a long-lasting numbing medicine (liposomal bupivacaine) into the breastbone before making the surgical cut reduces pain and the need for strong painkillers after heart surgery. 70 adults having heart surgery through the breastbone took part. The goal was to see if this approach works better than giving the same medicine at the end of surgery.
