First seen Apr 23, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study tested whether injecting donor stem cells into the wall of the vagina and rectum could safely heal abnormal tunnels (fistulas) that form in some women with Crohn's disease. About 20 women with a single fistula were to receive one injection of 75 million stem cells. The goal was to see if the treatment could close the fistula and improve quality of life, but the study was stopped early.
