First seen Apr 16, 2026 · Last updated Jun 21, 2026 · Updated 10 times
Summary

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
remestemcel-L (stem cells from a donor's bone marrow)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a new way to control severe ulcerative colitis without surgery.
What could go wrong
This was a very small, early-phase trial that was terminated early, so results are limited. Stem cell treatments can have unknown long-term risks.
