Cord stem cells aim to tame muscle disease and cut steroid use
NCT ID NCT07160205
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 36 times
Summary
This study tests whether stem cells from umbilical cord lining can safely improve symptoms and reduce steroid use in adults with dermatomyositis or polymyositis—diseases that cause muscle weakness and inflammation. Forty participants will receive three doses of the stem cells and three doses of a placebo, in random order, over 25 months. The goal is to see if the treatment controls the disease and allows patients to lower their steroid medications.
