This study tests whether stem cells from umbilical cord lining can safely reduce symptoms of dermatomyositis and polymyositis, two autoimmune diseases that cause muscle weakness and inflammation. About 40 adults will receive three doses of stem cells or a placebo, then switch. Researchers will check if the treatment helps lower steroid doses and improves muscle strength over 25 months.
