Fat cells may heal stubborn wounds in new mayo clinic trial
NCT ID NCT02375802
First seen Jan 14, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 17 times
Summary
This early study tests if stem cells taken from a patient's own belly fat can safely help heal pressure sores or diabetic foot ulcers. Twelve adults will have a small liposuction to collect fat, which is processed to extract stem cells and then placed on the wound with a special glue. The goal is to see if the treatment is safe and helps wounds close over 6 weeks.
