First seen Jan 28, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 12 times
Summary
This study tested whether injecting a child's own heart stem cells during a planned surgery is safe and possible for children with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a condition where the left side of the heart is underdeveloped. 25 children received the stem cell injection during their second-stage surgery. Researchers monitored for side effects and checked if the treatment improved heart function over a year.
