First seen Jan 28, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 11 times
Summary
This study tested whether injecting a child's own heart stem cells during a planned surgery could safely improve heart function in children with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a condition where the left side of the heart is underdeveloped. Twenty-five children received the stem cell injection during their second-stage surgery. Researchers monitored safety and measured changes in heart pumping ability over one year.
