Cutting unnecessary pills: could stopping statins ease suffering for advanced cancer patients?

NCT ID NCT07543432

First seen Apr 26, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study looks at whether it is safe and helpful to stop taking statins (cholesterol-lowering drugs) in people with advanced cancer who are in palliative care. Many patients continue taking these preventive medications even when they are near the end of life, which can cause side effects like muscle weakness and fatigue. The researchers will follow 80 patients for 12 weeks to see how stopping statins affects their cholesterol levels, muscle strength, tiredness, and quality of life.
