New study aims to close the diabetes tech gap for High-Risk patients

NCT ID NCT06453928

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This pilot study will test whether a hybrid closed-loop insulin pump (a 'smart' pump that adjusts insulin automatically) can help 40 adults with poorly controlled type 1 diabetes (A1c over 8.5%) from diverse backgrounds in Los Angeles. The goal is to see if it's possible to run a larger trial in this high-need group and to understand what helps or hinders use of the technology. Participants must not currently use an insulin pump and must have medical insurance.
