Dye during surgery could slash throat leak risk

NCT ID NCT06831149

First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated Jun 12, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tests whether using a special dye and camera during throat surgery can help prevent a common complication called a pharyngocutaneous fistula (PCF), which is a leak in the throat tube. The dye shows which tissues have poor blood flow, and surgeons remove those areas to reduce infection risk. About 225 adults with throat cancer who have had prior radiation will take part, and they will be monitored for one month after surgery.
