Spleen-Saving surgery for pancreatic cancer: a safer future?

NCT ID NCT07157605

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study looks at whether removing the spleen during left-sided pancreatic cancer surgery is always necessary. Currently, the spleen is removed to catch any hidden cancer cells in the surrounding fat, but this adds risks. By observing 94 patients, researchers hope to find out if the chance of cancer spreading to the spleen area is low enough to change standard practice.
