New scan could spot breast cancer type without needle
NCT ID NCT07275463
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a radioactive imaging agent called [99mTc]Tc-DB8 to see if it can help doctors see breast cancer tumors and tell whether they are estrogen receptor positive or negative. Forty women with primary breast cancer will get one injection of the agent, followed by a SPECT/CT scan two hours later. The goal is to find out if this scan can provide useful information about the tumor type, which might guide treatment decisions.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Technetium-99m-labelled DB8 ([99mTc]Tc-DB8)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to a new imaging method to better identify breast cancer types without invasive biopsies.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The imaging agent is experimental and its accuracy is not yet proven.
