Summary

This study tested a culturally tailored lifestyle program called SAHELI for South Asian adults at risk for heart disease. The program focused on diet and physical activity changes. Researchers compared the program to standard health education materials in 550 participants. The goal was to see if the program could improve blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, and weight.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
culturally tailored lifestyle program (diet and physical activity counseling)
What this could lead to
If successful, this program could offer an effective way to lower heart disease risk in the South Asian community.
What could go wrong
This is a completed study, but results may not apply to all South Asians or other groups. Lifestyle changes can be hard to maintain long-term.
