Sore throat revolution: could nurses and pharmacists replace doctors for antibiotic decisions?

NCT ID NCT06114706

First seen Mar 16, 2026 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study looks at whether changing who first sees a patient with a sore throat can cut down on unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions. Researchers will compare what happens when a doctor, a trained nurse, or a trained pharmacist does the initial check. The goal is to see if this change helps doctors follow guidelines better and reduces antibiotic overuse. About 450 people in Sweden with a sore throat as their main complaint will take part.
