Summary
This study aimed to understand how common unexplained physical symptoms (somatic symptoms) are in China, and to compare their frequency between older and younger adults. Researchers surveyed over 9,000 community-dwelling people using questionnaires to assess these symptoms, along with depression and anxiety. The goal was to map the prevalence of these conditions and identify risk factors, particularly for the elderly population.
