Baking soda may tame dangerous blood pressure jumps in dialysis patients
NCT ID NCT07231900
First seen Nov 17, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 23 times
Summary
This study tests whether taking a 500 mg sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) pill twice daily for one month can prevent sudden blood pressure rises during dialysis. About 40 adults on long-term hemodialysis who already have low bicarbonate levels and blood pressure spikes will be randomly assigned to receive the pill or a placebo. The goal is to see if this simple, low-cost approach can make dialysis sessions safer and more comfortable.
