Summary

This pilot study tested a 6-session virtual program called MASC that teaches mindfulness, self-compassion, and behavior management skills to caregivers of people with Alzheimer's or related dementias. 82 caregivers participated to see if the program is feasible and acceptable. The goal is to reduce caregiver stress and improve well-being.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Mindful and Self-Compassionate Care Program (MASC) - a behavioral intervention teaching mindfulness, self-compassion, and behavioral management skills
What this could lead to
If successful, this program could offer a practical, low-cost way to reduce stress and improve quality of life for dementia caregivers.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study (82 participants) focused on feasibility, not proof of effectiveness. Results may not apply to all caregivers, and benefits may be modest.
