Quit smoking by recording videos on your phone: new study tests it
NCT ID NCT07577167
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested a video-based program to help university students quit smoking. Participants recorded short videos about their reasons for quitting and received feedback from researchers. The goal was to see if this approach could reduce nicotine dependence and increase motivation to quit. The study compared the video group to a control group that received no initial help.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Modified Motivational Interviewing (video-based behavioral program)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a low-cost, self-guided way to help people quit smoking without expensive counseling.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, completed study in university students, so results may not apply to the general population. The program relies on self-motivation, which may not work for everyone.
